The Embassy of Romania to the Hellenic Republic has the distinguished pleasure to invite YOU to the 13th edition of the Athens Avant-Garde Film Festival, which presents, for the first time in Greece, a retrospective tribute to the work of multi-awarded Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude, one of the most important representatives of the new Romanian cinema.
Mr. Radu Jude will attend the festival from 11 to 14 December 2024 to present his films, while he will deliver a masterclass on Saturday 14 December at 2 PM, moderated by film critic Christos Mitsis, which will be followed by a Romanian Vin d’honneur event (4 PM-5 PM).
The festival will present in Greek premiere his two latest two films, the documentaries Eight Postcards from Utopia (2024) and Sleep #2 (2024), shortly after their world premiere at Locarno Film Festival last August.
The retrospective also includes 7 feature films and 4 short films by the director.
With nine feature films and four shorts to his credit, the tribute brings together an extensive sample of the multi-award winning director’s filmography.
Jude’s work is characterized by a unique combination of dark humor, sharp socio-political commentary, especially with regard to modern capitalism, and critical reflection on Romanian identity and history. Originally an assistant director on the films of Costa- Gavras and Cristi Puiu, Jude is unmistakenly associated with the “Romanian New Wave”.
Please find below the program of his participation in the 13AAGFF, as well as in the attachment: the poster of the 13th Athens AAGFF.
