With two major distinctions and three awards in total, Greece triumphed at the Condé Nast Traveller 21st readers’ awards gala in London.
More specifically, Greece ranked 1st in the “Best Islands/Favourite Islands” category and also earned 1st place and top prize of the “The World’s Top 100”. The Greek islands earned the most votes from the readers of all categories, with a 95.63% percentage of voting. Greece also earned the 2nd place as the “Best Country in the World”, following Italy.
“The awarding of Greece in three of the most important categories highlights the effectiveness of the communication strategy abroad, designed by the Tourism Ministry, in accordance with the guidelines of Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura, and implemented internationally by the Greek National Tourism Organization,” the GNTO said in an announcement.
The prestigious awards are voted for by CNT readers, honouring the best destinations, hotels, villas, spas, airlines, airports, cruises and tour operators.
“Despite all those staycations, the Channel Islands are as close as you get to the UK when it comes to water-surrounded land masses: you prefer to cast your net wider, to the warmer Indian Ocean, Caribbean or Mediterranean – and, increasingly, as far as the Philippines, which has more than 7,600 islands to choose between. The Greek Islands were the classical winners though, and this year’s overall number one, scoring highly for scenery and people,” notes CNT.
