Further strengthening of bilateral military cooperation
From December 6th-9th, the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mahmoud Hegazy, visited Greece following an invitation extended to him by the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis HN.
During this visit, the two Chiefs attended a series of the Bilateral Maritime Exercises ‘MEDUSA 3/2016’ drills on board ENS TAHYA MISR and HS NABARINON respectively, sailing in the south-eastern Aegean and Cretan Seas.
The Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces further laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier monument before attending an official reception which took place at the HNDGS HQs.
During the bilateral staff talks, the HNDGS Chief and his Egyptian counterpart discussed the current security challenges concerning the area of common interest, as well as issues relating to prospects for the further strengthening of bilateral military cooperation. The Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces was also briefed on the Hellenic Armed Forces organisation, mission and role.
In addition, Lieutenant General Mahmoud Hegazy was also received by the Alternate Minister of National Defence, Dimitris Vitsas.
