At the end of last month, the Consular Corps of Greece extended a very special invitation to its members to attend a guided tour of the state-of-the-art building complex, as well as the interior and exterior public space surrounding the buildings, of the ‘Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre’.
The project – designed by the renowned architectural practice Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) – consists of the construction and complete outfitting of the new facilities of the National Library of Greece (NLG) and the Greek National Opera (GNO), as well as the creation of the 210,000m2 Stavros Niarchos Park. The SNFCC’s development is entirely funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation with an exclusive grant of 617 million euros.
The SNF will hand over the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre to the Greek State in early 2017, which will assume its full operation and management. During the transition phase, the Foundation continues its mission to introduce the project to the public through a daily and dynamic programme of free public events that offers visitors an opportunity to experience SNFCC’s programmatic potential and its place as an urban destination for everyone.
