The General Consulate of the Dominican Republic in Athens recently realised the Commemoration of 172 years of Dominican Independence. Mrs. Genoveva Bernard de Roidis initiated the opening of this important celebration with a reception at the ASKLAYE premises. The ASKLAYE association is composed of all Latin-American countries in Athens, plus Spain.
The event saw the presence of eminent Members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps, distinguished Members of the Dominican Community, business representatives and artists, alongside other notable guests and friends that responded to this kind invitation.
The celebration commenced with the Dominican National Anthem, which was followed by a very rich folkloric programme comprised of Dominican Republic rhythmic sounds, such as Merengue and Bachata Salsa. The singer Odalis entertained the guests as they enjoyed a typical Dominican dinner. The Consul General, Mrs. Bernard de Roidis, then cut the traditional Vasilopita before guests continued with their celebrations late into the evening with high enthusiasm and in an excellent atmosphere.
